N95 Mask

When and where to use this mask

  • When you can't maintain the recommended 6-foot distance
  • Open-air

    N95

    The letter "N" is one of the ratings in the Respirator Rating Letter Class. The rating "N" signifies "Non-Oil", which means as long as there are no oil-based particulates around, you can safely use this mask.

    On the other hand, the number "95" means they have a 95% efficiency. Therefore, masks ending in 99 exhibits 99% efficiency, and so on.

    Material

    The filtering material is made of non-woven, electrostatic polypropylene fiber.

    What they filter out

    This particular mask can filter contaminants such as dust, fumes, and mists with a minimum size of 0.3 microns. This means contaminants bigger than 0.3 microns and large droplets won't be able to pass through the filter.

    KN95 Mask

    N99 Mask

    Disposable surgical masks

    When and where to use this mask

    This mask is usually used when the other masks mentioned above are not available. It can only filter out liquid-based contaminants, preventing them from getting in contact with your mouth and nose. Therefore, the KN95 mask can be used on these occasions:

  • When you can maintain the 6-foot distance
  • When there are not many people around
  • For protection against liquid-based contaminants only

    Unlike the other masks mentioned, this type of face mask is not given a rating from the Respirator Rating Letter Class.

    Material

    Regular, disposable surgical masks are made from polypropylene material as well.

    What they filter out

    Surgical masks can protect you from liquids such as splashes and droplets. But, they can't protect you from airborne particles. This means you are prone to contaminants in the air.
